چکیده

In this article, we study the power properties of quadratic-distance-based goodness-of-fit tests. First, we introduce the concept of a root kernel and discuss the considerations that enter the selection of this kernel. We derive an easy to use normal approximation to the power of quadratic distance goodness-of-fit tests and base the construction of a noncentrality index, an analogue of the traditional noncentrality parameter, on it. This leads to a method akin to the Neyman-Pearson lemma for constructing optimal kernels for specific alternatives. We then introduce a midpower analysis as a device for choosing optimal degrees of freedom for a family of alternatives of interest. Finally, we introduce a new diffusion kernel, called the Pearson-normal kernel, and study the extent to which the normal approximation to the power of tests based on this kernel is valid. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.

Quadratic Distances on Probabilities : a Unified Foundation

This work builds a unified framework for the study of quadratic form distance measures as they are used in assessing the goodness of fit of models. Many important procedures have this structure, but the theory for these methods is dispersed and incomplete. Central to the statistical analysis of these distances is the spectral decomposition of the kernel that generates the distance. We show how ...

A Bayesian 2 test for goodness-of-fit

This article describes an extension of classical χ goodness-of-fit tests to Bayesian model assessment. The extension, which essentially involves evaluating Pearson’s goodness-of-fit statistic at a parameter value drawn from its posterior distribution, has the important property that it is asymptotically distributed as a χ random variable on K − 1 degrees of freedom, independently of the dimensi...

An Updated Review of Goodness of Fit Tests Based on Entropy

Different approaches to goodness of fit (GOF) testing are proposed. This survey intends to present the developments on Goodness of Fit based on entropy during the last 50 years, from the very first origins until the most recent advances for different data and models. Goodness of fit tests based on Shannon entropy was started by Vasicek in 1976 and were continued by many authors. In this paper, ...
